Course objectives: Acquisition of the special vocabulary in engineering on an advanced level. This course develops a specialist vocabulary, and it also improves general language skills which are prepares the students for working in an international environment. Besides discussing the latest developments in engineering. This course contains topics connected to finding a job in the engineering sector, prepares for job interviews, teaches negotiating strategies which enable the students to become successful in corporate environment
Course contents: water management, biomimicry, autonomous vehicles, hydrogen vehicles, wind turbines, sustainable aviation solutions, satellites and space debris, quantum physics, materials for high and low construction, construction of skyscrapers, construction of bridges Speaking skills: using advanced vocabulary in almost all work-related situations Public speaking – develop language skills acceptable for everyday professional use. Reading skills: comprehension of articles on diverse engineering topics analyzing non-continuous texts on an advanced level Writing skills: advanced writing for different work-related purposes Grammar skills: further development of advanced morphological skills Listening: understanding texts on engineering in different English accents
Knowledge:
The student will be able to apply the knowledge acquired, communicate in English on professional issues and use the formal language of mechanical engineering in a creative way. The ability to produce coherent, professional written and oral texts. Ability to understand longer, more complex technical texts. Ability to acquire knowledge independently.
The student knows the vocabulary and terms of the profession in English and Hungarian. Their command of English is sufficient for the level of training, the knowledge of English-language literature, the understanding and processing of technical texts and the performance of professional tasks, as well as for continuous professional self-training.
You will endeavour to read the English language literature in the field of mechanical engineering and to continuously improve your language skills and professional knowledge.
Communicate independently and use the language confidently in a variety of professional situations.
Mid-term study requirements:
Mid-term study requirements: Continuous assessment during the semester: The grades are obtained based on points acquired during the semester by completing the following tasks: active participation in the lesson, presentation on an engineering topic, vocabulary tests, writing an exam paper consisting of vocabulary and grammar tasks. Exam criteria: Students complete the course by acquiring at least 50% of the maximum number of points (100 points). The grades are awarded according to the Learning and Exam Regulations of the John von Neumann University
